Jake’s Sponsor of the Year

 

This award is given to the business or person that you feel does a great job for you and chapter in supporting your Jakes Event/Program. Please write a brief summary of what they do for you that makes you feel they deserve the award. Include in this letter their name and/or business name and your name as the nominator. There is a field to upload documents if you have other information you would like to add.

 

 

Jakes Volunteer of the Year

 

This award is given to the Jake’s Event/Program Volunteer that you feel does a great job volunteering at the events and goes above and beyond for the event. Please write a brief summary of what they do for you and why you feel they deserve this award. Include in this letter their name and your name as the nominator. There is a field to upload documents if you have other information you would like to add.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wildlife Officer of the Year Award Criteria

 

 

 

    General Criteria:

 

    Must be full-time state, federal or provincial wildlife law enforcement officer. (All wildlife officers are eligible including specialty officers such as marine patrol, aquatic investigations and recovery, air patrol, etc.)

 

    All nominees for the national award must have won the state chapter’s officer of the year award. Each Nomination shall include the Wildlife Officers name, district he works in, and any other information you may know.

 

    The NWTF State Chapter President must approve the nomination of the selected officer.

 

    Any Ohio NWTF member may nominate a Wildlife Officer. Please submit your written nomination BY OCTOBER 10, 2025 to: Email: Steve Huecker at shelbycountysharpspurs@gmail.com  or US mail: Steve Huecker

    Below are the requirements for each submission. Please provide as much information on two pages. If your submission wins the state award. Your paperwork will be sent to Edgefield S.C. to be considered for the National Award.

 

    Each chapter may submit up to a total of two typed pages of supporting information for their nominee. If the total pages are exceeded only pages one and two will be considered. Supporting information may include recent and past accomplishments.

 

 Note: Information regarding specific accomplishments has much more value than general comments such as “he/she is a great officer,” or “everyone likes him/her,” or “he/she always does a great job.”

 

    Support letters, newspaper clips, magazine clips, etc. may also be submitted, but must be counted as a supporting page of which only 2 are allowed. Please do not submit headshots.

 

    The attached nomination form (attachment 2) should be completed and submitted to the Ohio State Chapter Awards Committee no later than October 10th, 2025 We must adhere strictly to this deadline  and unable to consider any late entries for the national award. For your convenience you may submit forms nominating a candidate via U.S. Mail, Fax or Email. If mailed the material must be postmarked by October 31 or earlier.

 

 

    Eligibility Criteria:

 

The NWTF’s wildlife law enforcement committee will resolve any eligibility criteria related questions.

 

     Information to Consider

 

 Case Involvement:

 

Officer should be involved in a variety of work activities. High percentages of case success is not the only criteria. High numbers accompanied by a variety of cases, placing special emphasis on major cases and wild turkey resource violations is an important factor.

 

 Public Relations: The wildlife law enforcement officer’s willingness to participate in public relations activities such as public speaking engagements, writing newspaper columns, television and radio interviews in addition to the officer's involvement in civic or nonprofit organizations.

 

 Attitude:

 

    A positive frame of mind regarding all work assignments.

 

    The wildlife law enforcement officer’s professional approach to the general public.

 

Enthusiasm:

 

    The willingness to seek work activities through self-motivation.

 

    The willingness to assist the public with any type of wildlife related problems.

 

Attitude to Other Department Employees and Other Law Enforcement Agencies:

 

    The willingness to interact with other Department employees and his/her eagerness to assist them.

 

    The willingness to interact and assist with all branches of Law Enforcement within his/her assigned work area.

 

Professionalism:

 

    The ability to interact with all constituents in a business-like manner.

 

    The extent in which the officer knows or is willing to learn the specific details of the job.

 

    The community's respect for the officer.

 

    The ability to communicate with Department personnel and the public.

 

Dependability:

 

    The availability to respond when called upon to answer incident reports.

 

    The ability to schedule and meet all deadlines in a timely fashion.

 

    The officer can be relied upon to make proper decisions.

 

Investigative Skills:

 

    The ability to gather and communicate information relating to illegal activities.

 

    The ability to effectively communicate orally or by written reports.

 

    The ability to perform appropriate documentation of wildlife crime scene.

 

Supports Hunting Heritage:

 

    Demonstrates support for preserving our hunting heritage.

 

    Provides law-abiding sportsmen and women with positive experiences.

 

    Share experiences with those new to outdoor activities.
